Active Zones

 

Active Zones energize the body, your life and the environment! Many of us find ourselves living and working in high-rise buildings, with miles of hallways and stairwells. Our homes are in communities surrounded by long streets, sidewalks, parks and open space. Our homes vary in size.  Some are large with stairs or small with limited space.  Regardless of the differences, all are great spaces to use as Active Zones to get and stay fit.

 

Active Zones are environments in which to promote activity, exercise and increase human energy usage (caloric burn). Through education, children and adults who are made aware of the importance of Active Zones will be empowered to Opt 2 Move and become more active by taking advantage of the available space around them.

 

Active zones may be any area of a building, community, home or space such as:

Walk ways – Escalators - Parks - Sports fields -  Hallways-corridors - Stairs ways - Surrounding grounds or paths

 

Active zones can be placed in:

Retail stores (mid-size or large), Government organizations, Factories, Apartment buildings, Condominium buildings, City governments, Community centers, Metro stations, Train stations, Hotels, Hospitals, Schools, Stadiums, Museums, Airports
